A brief history of my time since graduation: Attended college at Idaho State University from fall 1962 to May 1964, Chemistry Major. Served a Mormon mission from July 1964 to July 1966, Northern California. Attended BYU from fall 1966 to May 1969 and graduated in 1969 with a BA degree in Physics and minor in Math. Was married to Adele Gander in September of 1967 whom I met at BYU. I served in the Air Force as a fighter pilot (F-106) from July 1969 until August of 1974. I went to professional Optometry School in Forest Grove, Oregon from 1975 to 1979 and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree. I then served in the U.S.Navy as an Optometrist from 1979 to 1983 at Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, CA at the Naval Hospital. I left active duty in the Navy in 1983 and moved to Logan, Utah where I set up a private practice of Optometry. I took a recall to active duty in the Navy in August of 1984 and completed a career in the U.S.Navy as an Optometrist and retired from the military in 1996 after assignments to Navy Eyecare Clinics in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia all in the United States. I moved my then large family to Orem, Utah where I have lived since August of 1996, I practiced private Optometry in Orem from 1996 until 2013 when I fully retired from working at age 69. My marriage to Adele ended after 40 years of marriage in 2007 as a result of my religious transition out of Mormonism. I married Mary Jane Simon who is from the Philippines in February of 2017 and we remain happily married.

Hello to all my fellow classmates and a big Happy Birthday to all who turn 80 this year! I don’t post often here but I follow a lot of the comments. I had a very big and wonderful reunion with all children and grandchildren here at my home in Orem, UT on the weekend following my birthday on April 16. We all had a super wonderful time visiting and connecting again. Wishing you all the very best in getting through these years of getting much older now. Take good care of yourself and those you love.

Hi Gary, I know you live in Seattle and I just watched last night a documentary news video on Youtube that was titled “Seattle is Dying” that was from about 1 year ago. This was about the very huge problem the homeless in Seattle of which almost all have some drug addiction. The city just seems to more or less let these people just cause such an eyesore around many parts of Seattle. If seen this video I would like to hear your input about this local problem there.

Hello to all my classmates and a super Happy New Year to each of you! I enjoy reading comments on this site and keeping up with some of your news. I hope all are doing okay especially health wise and in your lives now going. I am still in Orem, Utah where I have lived the last 23 years. My health is doing real well right now but I did overcome a scare with colon cancer 20 years ago that did go into the liver as well. I am very fortunate to be totally cancer free now for the last 17 years so that is very good. I hope the best for all of us in this new year! Doug Satterfield
